IT’S A “GIFT” WRAP: THE NON-PROFITS WE FEATURED IN 2013
GRASS ROOTS PROFILE / HOME / DECEMBER 23, 2013

"In this season of giving, we always like to remind our readers of the worthy organizations we’ve featured throughout the year. When you are looking for ways to give back or pay it forward, we hope these will be among the ones you consider.

"The Sparkle Caps Project”

"Founded in October of 2010 by Susan “Victorious” Heimbigner, this 501(c)(3) currently calls Facebook home. February 2014 will mark not only Susan’s 69th birthday, but her fourth year as a survivor. And she’s still making good use of those years. The Sparkle Caps Project’s mission is to empower women in treatment for cancer with support, love, God’s word, and personal experiences; to let women know that in spite of their hair loss, they are HOT CHICKS, that their femininity is not tied to their hair; to help women maintain positive attitudes, because that is part of the battle."

WOMEN OF WEDDINGS WHITE ENVELOPE AWARD - December 2013

WOW!  For the third Christmas in a row, Sparkle Caps is honored to be the recipient of the White Envelope award from Women of Weddings (out of CA). The wonderful donation of $500 has already started helping some of the 20 women who will receive Sparkle Caps bags of blessings this year. We are so appreciative of WOW’s support of Sparkle Caps and 60 women in treatment for cancer over a 3-year period. (WOW has now disbanded as a charity.)

The award reads, in part, as follows: "The Women of Weddings. . .is proud and honored to present to you, Sparkle Caps, our. . .Women of Weddings White Envelope. In the true and benevolent spirit of the holiday season, it is our desire to provide you with a donation of $500. Our hope is that your organization will benefit from this donation by continuing to send Sparkle Caps and affirmations to women battling cancer. Your organization truly touched our hearts and your continued work is inspiring! We admire what you have done and what you continue to do for women.”

Kimberlee Miller: "Just read your latest letter that you sent to me and the lovely ladies of 'Women of Weddings'.  I sit here feeling so much joy and sadness reading who is affected by your cause and how horrible this disease is. You are such a lovely person and we so appreciate what you are doing. WOW is so happy to have found a cause that we can contribute to that really comes straight from the heart and helps so many women. We are honored to know you Susan! You can count on us to be involved in your amazing project as long as possible.

What do you get when you combine a breast cancer diagnosis, deep faith, and social networking? The Sparkle Caps Project – that’s what! Founded in October of 2010 by Susan "Victorious" Heimbigner, this 501(c)(3) currently calls Facebook home. February marks not only Susan’s 68th birthday, but her third year as a survivor. And she’s made good use of those years!

BLOG by Judith L. Pearson - October 17, 2012

The Sparkle Caps Project was the subject of the below blog by Judith L. Pearson, the founder of Courage Concepts.

"When Little Is Really BIG"

"When you receive a diagnosis of breast cancer, your world becomes filled with BIG things. Every test, every conversation, every decision has HUGE consequences. In the end, though, it’s the LITTLE things that warm your heart. A hug, a smile, a little ditty to remind you how special you are. The Sparkle Caps Project is like that. Using her own money plus any donations she receives, a lovely lady from South Carolina (a breast cancer 'winner' herself) puts together gift bags with books, goodies, and sparkly caps for women who need a little pick-me-up during their treatment. It’s one of those LITTLE things that’s really a BIG deal!"

ANGEL AWARD from Creative Medical ID - October 14, 2012

I am so honored to receive this First Angel Award from Creative Medical ID. It will bring more attention, and hopefully sponsorships and referrals, to The Sparkle Caps Project, thereby empowering more than the 221 women who have, to date, been uplifted and blessed through the Sparkle Caps gift bags. Susan “Victorious”

"The winner of the 2012 first annual Creative Medical ID “Angel Award” is…

                                                                   Susan Heimbigner

"Please help us celebrate this amazing 'angel,' whose tireless efforts have brought a glimmer of hope to over 221 women during their cancer treatments to let them know that in spite of their hair loss, they are HOT CHICKS, and that their femininity is not tied to their hair.

"The Sparkle Caps Project was founded in 2010 by Susan Heimbigner, aka Susan "Victorious," during her treatment for breast cancer. Susan says, 'During radiation treatments, I prayed that God would use my experience and allow me to help other women going through treatment for cancer. My prayer was answered a couple weeks later when I heard a woman complimenting me on my yellow sparkle cap as we passed each other in the radiation department at our treatment facility. At that moment, I wished I had a cap to give her. The light turned on, and the seed was planted for this project.'

"Please show your support to this wonderful 'angel' by sponsoring a gift bag, which includes a beautiful sparkle cap and reading materials specifically geared toward women with cancer in hopes to uplift and bless each recipient."

WOMEN OF WEDDINGS WHITE ENVELOPE AWARD - December 25, 2011

I am so thrilled to announce that The Sparkle Caps Project has received the Women of Weddings ("WOW") White Envelope donation this Christmas. This is a women's group in CA; and my sister Barbie, who is a minister, is a member of this group. She presented the project to WOW for consideration; three other projects were also considered. Part of the message that came with the donation stated, "Your organization truly touched our hearts and your continued work is inspiring!" This donation will provide 20 more gift bags--20 more women who are going through treatment for cancer will be supported and empowered through the blessings of these gift bags. Praise be to God! This is a wonderful affirmation for this Project.
